Corporate History

As far back as 1975, CKR Global has had a rich entrepreneurial spirit that started in Canada and continues to this day with growth, innovation, relentless drive, customer satisfaction, new service lines and ever expanding geographic regions.  The original founders may have started separate companies, but together they boldly forged a deep history in private investigation and risk mitigation services across Canada.  The combined years of effort, measurable results and superior customer service have led to a world class corporation employing over 500 highly skilled professionals across Canada, the Gulf States, London, India, Afghanistan and many other locations were clients and projects demand.

The culmination of these many great companies has resulted in significant achievements, some of which are outlined below in our CKR Global corporate timeline:

1975

George W. Offley founds G.W. Offley and Associates Ltd. in Edmonton AB, Canada.  The name of the company was changed to Shepp Johnman Investigations in 1980 and grew to 3 offices with over 40 staff, before being acquired by Canpro Global in 2007.

1979

Ron Harvey, former RCMP Commercial Crime Investigator founded Special Investigation Consultants Ltd in Calgary AB, Canada.  By 1983, Lance Saunders and Ray Renaud acquire the business and change the name to BSG Corporation, also known as Bison Security Group, and grow to over 50 staff with multiple offices before being acquired by Canpro Global in 2007.

1984

Brian D. King co-founded King-Reed & Associates Ltd. in Toronto ON, Canada

1985

King-Reed rapidly expands its operation by opening an office in Sudbury, Ontario

1986

King-Reed opens Southwestern Ontario head office in Kitchener-Waterloo, Ontario.

1987

King-Reed & Associates Ltd. officially becomes the largest agency of its kind in Ontario, and opens a Criminal Investigations Unit the following year to meet clients’ needs.

1988

Fred Bodnaruk founds Fred Bodnaruk Investigations Group Ltd in Vancouver BC, Canada.  The Cahoon family acquires a majority of the company in 1996 and changes the name to FBIG Incorporated.  With multiple partners, the business grows to over 60 staff and 5 regional offices in BC, before merging with Canpro Pacific in 2002, eventually re-branding as Canpro Global in 2007.

1989

Ontario operations are expanded once again as King-Reed & Associates Ltd. opens its Barrie, Ontario office.

1990

King-Reed & Associates Ltd. is retained to help investigate the very high-profile Elizabeth Bain murder and opens a Trenton, Ontario office.

1991

Canpro Pacific Services Inc. is created by Robert Burns, Fred Maile, Ken Porth and Gord Grenon in Burnaby BC, Canada.  They grow the business to over 40 staff specializing in Investigations and Security Consulting services across British Columbia.  The firm is merged with FBIG in 2002, eventually becoming Canpro Global.

1992

King-Reed & Associates Ltd. further expands its reach in Ontario by opening an office in Ottawa.  That same year, the firm is engaged to independently investigate the high profile Raymond Constantine Lawrence police shootings.

1993

King-Reed & Associates Ltd. expands to Hamilton, Ontario and is featured in the Toronto Star newspaper.   Brian D. King indicates he has new information that could help acquit convicted murderer, Robert Baltovitch, who is later exonerated.

1994

King-Reed & Associates, Shepp Johnman and Bison Security Group become founders of Investigations Canada, a national referral network with over 300 professional investigation agencies from coast to coast.

1995

King-Reed & Associates opens offices in London and Kingston, Ontario.   That same year, King-Reed uncovers a major taxi fraud scheme in Toronto that receives national coverage.

1996

Fred Bodnaruk Investigation Group is rebranded as FBIG, with multiple partners (Kenneth Cahoon, Joe Tkach, Herb Cahoon, Matt Henschel, Kevin Cahoon and Ray Kielan) and opens new offices in Kelowna and Victoria, British Columbia.

1997

King-Reed & Associates opens another office in Windsor, Ontario and Brian D. King is awarded “Investigator of the Year” by the Global Investigators Network in Chicago, USA.

1998

King-Reed is featured in Derek Finkle’s award-winning book “No Claim to Mercy” and Mr. King is elected President of the Council of International Investigators.

1999

King-Reed uncovers a major fraud scheme that is aimed at the Toronto Transit Commission.  David Black is elected President of the Council of Private Investigators-Ontario.  FBIG opens offices in Nanaimo and Prince George, BC.

2000

FBIG joins the Investigations Canada network.  King-Reed is retained to investigate the missing person case of Tammy Lamondin-Gagnon.  Featured in the Toronto Star newspaper, King-Reed performs security sweeps of Toronto City Councilors’ offices and finds ‘serious security flaws.’

2001

Kane Investigations in Kelowna joins FBIG and represents the Okanagan region of BC.   King-Reed is asked to investigate the infamous Canadian Steven Truscott murder case and pioneers a program for DNA testing.

2002

Canpro Pacific and FBIG Incorporated merge operational divisions, though remain separate brands.  Interior Investigations in Kamloops is acquired in BC and joins the Canpro/FBIG Group of Companies to represent the interior region of BC. King-Reed & Associates Ltd. hosts the Council of International Investigators’ annual conference in Toronto and establishes KR Screening as a pre-employment service.

2003

King-Reed & Associates Ltd. executes multiple simultaneous Anton Pillar Orders, seizing counterfeit music media across Ontario, in one of the largest intellectual property cases in Canadian history. Mr.  King is named the Council of International Investigators ‘Investigator of the Year’ award in Kinsale, Ireland.

2004

FBIG creates a Loss Prevention division with Mr. Warren Griffey as Managing Partner and a subsidiary of the Canpro/FBIG Group of Companies.  King-Reed & Associates Ltd. establishes its Brand Protect Canada division, to combat trademark infringement. The Granite Group makes a substantial equity investment in King-Reed & Associates Ltd.

2005

Canpro/FBIG Group of Companies begin considerable merger and acquisition phase and acquire Verifact Investigations in Prince George, BC and Liberty Investigations in Vancouver, BC.   King-Reed’s Corporate Risk Solutions brand is established and the firm plays an important role with CPIO in obtaining regulation naming private investigators as ‘investigative bodies’ under Federal Privacy Bill, PIPEDA.

2006

Canpro/FBIG Group of Companies re-brand as Canpro Global Services Inc. - a Risk Mitigation company with five distinct brands and Robert Burns is voted President.   King-Reed investigation helps secure Robert Baltovich a new trial on appeal and he is eventually acquitted.  Mr. King attends Indonesia to re-investigate the Bre-X Gold scam involving $40 billion US.  Nino Calabrese, King-Reed VP, was the first Canadian to ever win the Dennis A. Noggle Excellence Award sponsored by Kimberley-Clark Corporation.

2007

Canpro Global continues rapid growth and acquires 3 firms: BSG Corporation and Hammer & Associates in Calgary, AB, and Shepp Johnman Investigations in Edmonton, AB.

2008

Canpro Global acquires Fife Technical Safety & Rescue Consulting Ltd. Canpro opens international offices in Cypress, and signs a service agreement with the National Security Institute, Abu Dhabi.  King-Reed is retained to travel to Mexico and investigate high profile murders of Canadian couple, Nancy and Domenic Ianiero.

2009

Canpro Global signs a Joint Venture Partnership with GI Security, with a team of over 10,000 personnel, to service clients in India.  Canpro opens an office in Afghanistan providing secured accommodation to international personnel and organizations.

2010

With a team of over 400 personnel, Canpro successfully manages multiple security contracts for Canadian and International organizations at the 2010 Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver, Canada.  Later that same year, President Robert Burns was a finalist and runner up in the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award and Canpro opens an office in Winnipeg, Manitoba.  King-Reed moves corporate office into new state-of-the-art facility in Toronto.

2011

On June 4th, Canpro Global and King-Reed merge to create Canada’s largest fully national Risk Mitigation and Investigation firm.  The firm is rebranded as CKR Global with Mr. King as Chairman and Mr. Burns as President & CEO.  Mr. King was also elected, for second time, as the President of the Council of International Investigators in Boston, USA.
